Notes: Between 1887 and 1910, the Bureau of Education categorized women’s institutions as Division A or Division B. The Bureau described Division A institutions as “essentially collegiate…making more or less provision for the distinctive studies of the college curriculum” in contrast to the Division B schools that featured some collegiate courses alongside primary and preparatory training. Division A colleges tended to boast more substantial libraries, equipment, and endowments.

Note: Between 1887 and 1910, the Bureau of Education categorized women’s institutions as Division A or Division B. The Bureau described Division A institutions as “essentially collegiate…making more or less provision for the distinctive studies of the college curriculum” in contrast to the Division B schools that featured some collegiate courses alongside primary and preparatory training. Division A colleges tended to boast more substantial libraries, equipment, and endowments.
